Entry 3 - Red Riding Hood
We decided to make our short film about Red Riding Hood.
Dayna suggested that we make Red the primary colour in our film while the rest of the film is either cool-toned or Black and White. This would be a cool idea as it'll play on the idea of Red Riding Hood. In addition, we thought of blood splattering, on the wall, so that'd look really awesome with the colour contrasts. However, Mr Andrews pointed out that the filter will pick up any shades of red, so that this idea might not work that well. Therefore, we decided to abandon this idea.
We also thought of making the coat white at first and then it turns red after killing so that the narrator can go, "And that's the story of how an innocent girl turned into Little Red Riding Hood..." This would also play on the whole idea of the story not being too obvious with an edge because Red is not innocent.
Now we knew that Red was going to kill, but we had to think about the story plot devices in our story. For example, the characters. We thought of making it so that Red Riding Hood is actually trying to kill her. But why? This is where everything got confusing. We have 2 ideas.
1. The grandma trains Red to kill people, and Red takes revenge on Grandma for ruining her life as a child as she didn't get to be normal. If we do this, we can make it so that after Red kills a person, which can be the big bad wolf, the grandma can give her the red coat so that her blood stains are noticeable. Then she would kill grandma and she can say something like, "You're right, it's not noticeable."
2. Grandma killed Red's parents because she wanted Red's parent's money. Maybe Red's parents saved money for Red, and Grandma is jealous that she's not getting any money after raising them, so she twistedly kills the parents so that Red gets the money and Grandma can technically have the money under parental guidance.
We also want Red to seem as the victim the whole time, but she turns out evil in the end as a plot-twist. We thought of doing this cool thing where when Red is walking, a camera can follow behind her in a walking motion, so that it seems as if someone's following her and she's the victim.
For the Big Bad Wolf, since this short film is going to be a twist of the original story, we're going to make him the nice guy. He's going to actually be a person who's trying to not get someone hurt but ends up dying ??? But what about the huntsmen that helps Red? How is he going to be included in the story? Not really sure.
For the place, we're thinking of shooting it in the forest in Owen Park and a creepy shed near the rowing place that Dayna knows. Besides that, everything will be shot at school.
