Entry 2 - Group and Ideas

Today we got into groups and started organising some ideas.

Genre ideas:

Dayna wanted something that’s not too obvious, but with an edge. When saying not too obvious, this is not about the genre, since the genre needs to be clear, but instead making the outcome of the story not too obvious. Therefore, we reached the conclusion of creating a supernatural film; Werewolves, Vampires and etc. This is inspired by teen wolf that Dayna watched over the holidays.

Dayna recommended an idea where the whole time the film looks as if the person is trying to kill the other, but it’s actually a romance film. For example, the wolf is chasing after this girl the whole time, so the viewers are going to think that the wolf is trying to eat the girl, but instead, the wolf is trying to confess to the girl. However, I'm not really sure on how we can convey this, because romance and horror are kind of different genres that will clash in the aspects of using colour tones and sound.

We could make it so that in one shot it shows the Girl's perspective on the situation in a horrific way, but in another shot, it shows the wolf's perspective on the situation in a romantic way. However, this would not make the storyline not too obvious, but with an edge.

However, out group came to the conclusion of definitely including something of the supernatural genre. This is because the genre of supernatural seemed fresh and a challenge. This might be kind of hard considering that we're going to have to do some special fx in a low budget way. In addition, 2/3 of the film needs to be filmed at school, which is also a challenge.

After some discussion, we came up with 2 main ideas. Werewolves and Witchcraft. We're just not sure on which one to do. Witchcraft seems easier to do since there's not much transformation, and the short film can be about curses, but the old girls did that for Term 1, so we're not too keen on that idea. I wasn't too keen on werewolves, cause it just seemed hard and unrealistic in terms of constumes.

Some things lead to the other and we thought about doing a parody film; A Happily Never After. Maybe a backstory of a well-known supernatural character. We were talking about doing Maleficent and having the storyline of Betrayal of a loved one after the loved one creates a wrong spell and that no one knows who she is until the very end, however, Mr Andrews pointed out that a movie like that was already created, so we scrapped that idea.

We also talked about doing Jigsaw from the movie Saw, as there's no backstory of the puppeteer. We thought of making it so that the puppeteer saw his parents get brutally murdered through a game when he was young, so now he just does the same thing to his victims in a "twisted" way of "revenge".

We also thought of doing Edward or Jacob from twilight with a Twisted backstory, but that would break too many teenage girls heart, so we weren't too keen for this.

At last we thought of the Red Riding Hood, but the bell rang, so we decided to discuss that for next time.
