Entry 7- Hallway

This lesson, I finally started on my animation. For the start of my animation, I wanted the boy to walk towards the bathroom in a dark hallway, to set off the dark depressing atmosphere from the start.

To draw the hallway, I first had to find an image of a hallway to reference. I also wanted to see how the hallway would move or narrow down when a person move's from first POV. The youtube video I used for this is < >, and the reference photo that I used is;

Before officially drawing my hallway, I drew out a rough sketch using the 4-dimensional drawing method (isometric drawing as well). I wanted the bathroom, the destination for my main character to go to be at the end of the hallway so that the viewers could have this deep sense of dread while he walks towards his "end". I had to redraw my hallway twice as the dimensions seemed uneven. After that, I tried to draw a line art for my hallway so that I can easily use my paint bucket tool, and so that my drawing looks like an average house without wiggly edges. Since my drawing app, Paint Tool SAI was new for me; I had no idea how to draw a straight line. I first tried using a ruler to draw, but after missing the lines that I was trying to draw, I decided to search up the solution on the internet. Apparently, if you draw a point on the start of where you want the start of a line to be, and then hold shift and then draw the point for the end of the line, it'll draw a straight line for you.

After finishing my line art, I had to colour in my hallway. Since I wanted the hallway to spread a dark, depressing aura, I mainly used dark purple colours. I had some trouble with colouring where the paint bucket tool "painted" the whole page when pressed more than once, which was a pain. I coloured in my mirror by duplicating my layer and then erasing other unnecessary lines out, leaving only the mirror. I then coloured it in with light blue with the colour bucket tool and turned the opacity down to 15%, so that the reflected space is shown to create a sense of realism. The mirrored space was done similarly. I duplicated the line art, flipped the mirrored space (the other wall) horizontally, and then erased out everything that did not fit in the mirror.

That's all that I did for this lesson.

Thinking through the hallway that I drew, I might draw the hallway again in brighter colours and as he walks by, the colours of the hallway change darker. I might even make the animation twirl as he walks to show his distressed mind.
