Entry 1 - Music Video Ideas
This term's unit of work is to create a music video. Over the holidays, I have already chosen my song and have thought of an idea for it. The song that I chose is '4 O'clock' by RM & V.
4 O'clock is a good song choice because it's very deep and emotional. The song also has a lot of symbols and metaphors, such as the moon, light, candle and letter. The main theme of the song is about friendship. However, the creator of this song, RM, has mentioned that under the moon's light, he can pick the pieces of himself that have been broken in the day and bring them back together. Therefore, I want to have a narrative about a broken, forgotten friendship, and how I am slowly moving on. The song is also very slow, which will allow me to have a very smooth narrative.
I thought of having this opening scene where I write a letter, crumple it up and throw it in the bin. Before that, there will be a panning shot of the wall where there are photos of me and my friend. At the end of the film, the photos on the wall will be gone, and I'll write a letter again, but this time, I'll fold it into a paper plane and throw it out of the window. I thought of ripping it up, but if I'm moving on, I don't think that I want to lose the memory of our friendship, but rather let it flow away.
The whole music video will be shot at night under the moonlight, to create the calm atmosphere. The night is where everyone and everything sleeps. It's the time to "meditate". I'll also have to have a shot of the clock at 4 o'clock, a nod towards the title.
I really want to make the moon big in the music video, but I'm not really sure how I could. I might be able to use a PNG of a huge moon and then just layer it on top of each shot in final cut.
The music video, Serendipity, has the kind of theme that I want.

I haven't told Mr Andrews the idea, but he told me that the song doesn't really have a beat, which might make it hard for editing. Therefore, I searched other songs. I really want to do a song from BTS, because they're my favourite artist.
Some songs that I found: DNA, Best of Me, Dimple, House of Cards
I want to do DNA because it's a new song, and the beat is upbeat. I also really like the whistle sound that keeps on going for the entire song. However, I don't really want the song to be played until I finish term 4. Half the music video for this song was on an acid trip. There were a lot of funky colours and melting mountains, kind of like Salvador Dali in the 80s. If I were to do a music video for this music video, I think I'm going to do some parkour and adventure thing with a friend. Funky colours would be great for the music video, but I don't think I will be able to find any funky colour in the real world.

Dimple doesn't have a music video, because it's a B-track, however, I really like the chorus part of the song. The song is about how the person's dimple is illegal because it's too pretty. I would need someone with a dimple to star in my film. I think I would do something like holding someone's hand and then travelling. Something like Ariana Grande's One Last Time video, where you can't see the 2nd person. Mine isn't going to be a one take.

Best of Me is a good song. There's an EDM in the chorus, which would be good for quick collage. The editing will also be easy because there are different types of beat in this song. Suga also sings in it, which is surprising. If I were to make a music video for this, I would do the same thing like Dimple, but not holding hands or anything. Just going around, partying, having fun with youth. I want the story plot to be similar to Avicii's Wake Me Up, but I don't want to follow it's cinematography. I don't really like the grainy destaurated filter. However, I don't want to do this song because it's a collab with the racist Chainsmokers.
House of Cards is also a good song, but if I'm going to make a music video for this, I want to follow this wealthy rich concept. The song is slow and has a similar vibe to Beyonce's Crazy in Love for Fifty Shades of Gray. This music video is probably going to be a collage. I want it to seem similar to Twice's Once Begin Teaser. I've thought of using the central hall or the new Media Art Film Noir setting for this.

I wanted to do their rap songs, but I realised that it has some swear words in it :) I'm happy that they're breaking kpop barriers, but still :)
