Concept for clip
Explain what narrative/images the clip will contain
Narrative, Collage and Performance.
Narrative: Getting over a broken relationship. She’s going to go around places that reminds her of them together. This will particularly be shown with photographs, where she will look through an album and see herself in places with the other friend. She’s not actually running around in real life, it’s just her memories haunting her. There will be a lot of running around, as she’s getting “chased” by her past.
Collage: It’s kind of a collage as it’s a collage of her running around everywhere.
Performance: Lip-sync
Message
What message will your clip contain or what is its purpose?
Style
What look and feel will your clip have?
Message: The message isn’t quite positive, as the message is that broken friendships will cause sadness. I wanted to portray reality, not fantasy. Yes, maybe one day she’ll get over it, but it’s not going to happen fast. This music video only represents a day or a week.

Style: I’m going to shoot all my films during the night time, as the song is about the night time. The scenery is also going to be dead and quiet, but I’ll be the only one panicking. I’m trying to depict the mood of sadness through blue colour tone. On the other hand, I’ll be depicting the idea of rehabilitating through warm colour tones in her bedroom where she feels safe.
Technical codes
Explain the ideas you have about camera work, transition devices, lighting, special effects, framing and composition
The music video has flashbacks, so there’s going to be a lot of cuts. The past and the present will be shown by cool and warm tones and the costume. Furthermore, the past will be desaturated, to achieve that grainy look. There’s going to be a lot of key lighting used during the scenes where I’m the one in focus. Other than that, fill light will be used throughout the film. I’m going to green screen a moon into the first scene. There will be a lot of panning shots, as I’m running around places.
Audio codes
What is the song about and how do the lyrics relate to the visuals you have selected? Will you be adding an additional sound?
I will not be adding additional sounds.
The song is very literal and it’s about how the artist values his friendship a lot. I’m going to twist the meaning of the song a little bit, so that it’s about a girl who still values a broken friendship. There’s a lot of symbolic objects in the song; such as, moon, letter, candle, park and etc . I’m going to show all of this in my film at the exact moment of the lyrics.
Pace
What sort of pace does your song have and how will this be reflected and created in your clip?
Written codes
If you are using any written codes, what text will you use? What is its significance?
Symbolic codes
Will there be any symbols in your clip and what will they be? Will you repeat any images or use a motif? How will the symbolism you have used contribute to the message of your clip?
Pace: The pace of the film will be slow, unless the girl is panicking. I will then use quick edits to reflect her panic attack. The scenes in her bedroom will be slow, as she’s finally accepting reality in her room.

Written Codes: I’m not using any “Written Codes”, but I’m using subtitles so that the viewers can relate to the symbolic objects that I’m using in relation to the lyrics.

Symbolic Codes: As mentioned before, I’m using symbols to reflect my lyrics. If the darkness counts as a symbol, I’m using that as the main motif. When everything gets better, the sun will rise, killing the darkness.
Key elements of mise-en-scene to be used
Explain the settings needed and outline key props and costumes needed
Key props are the symbolic objects that I mentioned before; candles, photos, letter and etc.
Setting: I will be shooting during the night time, as the song is about writing a letter to the moon. I will shoot in the park, the tram station and mostly places where everything appears normal. The girl needs to feel out of place.
Costume: Everyday sleepwear. I’m trying to show her in her most vulnerable state. Where she dresses to appeal no one.
Appeal
What things in your clip do you think will appeal to a youth audience?
I think my film will appeal to the youth audience as there are a lot of broken friendship during youth. They will relate to the song and both the MV, as it reflects them.
