Entry 5- Practising to draw
For my animation, I am not sure whether or not to draw in an easy drawing style, an anime drawing style or a realistic drawing style. Each drawing style would fit the animation idea that I am thinking of, but I am worried about time-management. An easy drawing style would have a lighter feel to the animation whereas a realistic drawing style would bring a substantial atmosphere. I learnt this when practising a portrait, where the lighter the shading, the lighter the atmosphere becomes, and the opposite for a darker shading.
In class, I drew a male character in 3 different ways to see how much it would affect the atmosphere.
The first drawing has a loose sense of style which the viewers would feel lightly about watching. The inspiration for this drawing style is Adventure Time and a comic that I saw on Tumblr. Its lanky arms are easy to draw and only takes about 1-5 mins to draw. This will effectively decrease my time in drawing the actual person. However, this drawing style may conflict with the realistic background that I was planning to draw, to give the animation a more serious atmosphere.
The second drawing has an anime feel to it, this is my preferred drawing style, as I have been drawing this way for a long time. This style may or may not convey the message in my animation heavily or lightly, depending on the amount of effort I put into the character's emotion. If I do end up using this style for my animation, I will have to practice drawing emotions and facial expressions. Different eye styles also affect the character's whole vibe. As we say, "The windows are the eyes to the soul."
The third drawing, a "realistic" drawing gives out a heavier atmosphere because of the overloading amount of shading. This style will be extremely time-consuming, and may or may not bring the animation down, depending on how well I use this style to complement the background and the plot.
For my animation, I am wavering towards the anime style or I might just mix the anime style and the semi-realistic style together...
