Entry 14 - New Shots

I filmed the rest of my shots today. I only had to film 2 scenes, so it didn't take me that long.

The first scene was the TV Screen thing that I mentioned in my earlier blog posts. I wanted to do something like Sia's Big Girls Cry where Maddie Ziegler acts her emotions out based on the lyrics in a weird manner. I thought that it would show a burst of emotions. It was kind of thinking of hand movements to do, as I improvised on the spot, and it was really cringey. However, using the red light made the whole thing look really creepy.

When I imported this shot into my usb to show on my screen, it became 1000% creepier. Since the TV light consumed the light surrounding it, the surrounding became darker, making the screen more saturated (darker red). It looked like a scene from a horror film where I'd die if I look somewhere else. Other than that, when I was filming on the camera, the camera would catch these flares (?) from the TV screen, which made the whole film really old and corrupted. I also couldn't get a lot of light into the shot, which might be the reasoning behind the flare, because the light reflected onto the TV screen which then created a burn light (?).

It was annoying how I had to refilm this several times because I pressed the remote by accident.

The second scene I filmed was the bathroom scene. Usually in movies, when someone is thinking, they wash their faces in frustration to cool themselves down. Therefore, I thought the bathroom would be the perfect place to show emotions.

In the bathroom, I had to be extra careful that the camera and LED light would not be reflected onto the mirror. That's why I had to use the physics law of mirror reflection so that only I can be seen.

The first shot in the bathroom scene was a slightly low angle and position shot, which made me seem powerful, but also as if someone was watching me from behind. I also like how the light is reflected onto the water on the mirror and the tap, it creates this feeling of coldness. I had to film this scene several times as I didn't stand in the spot where my face would appear.

This second shot is of me turning on the tap water. It's an eye-level close-up shot. There's no particular importance to this shot, I just wanted a close-up shot of the water running, because I kept on using long or medium shots.

This shot is of me washing my hands. It's the same as before, I wanted a close-up shot of my hand with the water in it this time. I also wanted to act as if the camera was my face, but I was not ready to get my camera wet.

This shot is of me looking into the mirror to see my reflection. It's a medium shot. I love the way my face and the water sprinkle is lit up by the light, because it kind of lights up the atmosphere.

This shot is the same shot as the previous shot, except this time, I have red handprints on the window. I wanted the red hand shots to symbolise me trying to let go of my emotions, but not being able to because I'm trapped. It's kind of inspired by the movie, 'Mirror'. For me to have blend the two shots nicely, I had to remember the exact point that I was standing in.

This shot is of me washing my bloody hands, showing that I'm the culprit. Now this can means one thing; I'm getting rid of the evidence of "murder". I'm washing away the guilt and regret of not showing my emotions by "killing" my past self.
