This lesson, I wanted to practice making a movie poster before we started on our assignment. For my movie, I wanted to make a movie - dedicated to Tom Riddle, my favourite Harry Potter character - where he resurrects as his young self to take revenge on Harry. For this poster, I was inspired by the X-Men poster we saw from the, "What happened to movie posters" on BlackBoard.
To achieve this, I wanted Tom to sit down on a chair or a stool facing forwards. I tried finding the image that I wanted from Britannica, but I couldn't, so I decided to use Google instead. After acquiring a photo of a model sitting on a stool, I downloaded a photo of Tom Riddle, facing forward. I first masked off the Model's face and the background, so that I had a completely white background except the body of the model, and then added Tom Riddle's face on top of the body. I masked off the excess before doing so. To perfectly align the face with the body and the neck, I turned the opacity level to a lower level. After that, I changed the colour of the photos to complete black by pressing Command + U.
Deciding that I wanted a shattering effect with the figure, I downloaded a shattered glass photo from google, and then layered it on top of the figure, aligning it so that the cracked edges are where I want them to be. I then masked off the black excess that was there beyond the shattering glass and the black figure. To complete the shattering glass look, I downloaded a black triangle from google, and then copy and pasted it so that it seemed as if the glass was shattering and flying everywhere. Since this is Tom Riddle movie, I needed to hint that it was somehow related to Tom Riddle, so I added Voldemort's face on top of the shattering glasses. Since it took too much time to mask everything one by one, I used the magic tool and selected all the black triangles by shift-clicking, and then inverted it. After inverting it, I deleted Voldemort's face that was not inside the black triangle. I lowered Voldemort's opacity to a lower level so that it appeared darker and grimmer.
After exporting this as a jpeg file, I opened the image in pages and then added a drop shadow effect. making the image pop out. I also filtered the image by lowering it's brightness to add in an even darker effect to portray Voldemort to be even worse than before. I then added the title of the movie and a short explanation to the movie poster, finally completing it.
