Entry 15.5- Additional Work (Shadows)

I stayed after school at the library to add more stuff into my photoshop, as I was slightly behind my own photoshop work. I first downloaded an image of black wings from the internet, and then added it into my photoshop. The image of the black wing, however, did not look realistic close-up, but from far away, the black wings looked incredibly normal. I feared that this may be a problem later on, as all my other objects in my photoshop were real. (This may be because of photoshop fading out the image when zoomed out.) I then moved the layer of the wings behind me, with all the other stuff attached, so that the wings were in the background, just on top of the mountain of corpses. I also selected the unnecessary parts and then deleted it, instead of masking it, as I did not need the white excess later on. I also did this as I prefer using the masking technique only when an object needs a significant amount of detail for a certain spot. After that, I transformed warped my wings so that it looked as if the wings were bending inwards, to create the sense of isolation.

To make my whole piece seem natural, I added shadow effects by creating a new blank layer on top of the existing layer that I wanted to create shadows for, and then simply coloured in the areas that I believed the shadow would land on. After that, I dropped the flow of the eraser to 5% and then carefully erased the edges of the shadows, to blend in with the wings. Whenever the eraser erased too much of the shadow, I simply repeated the step from the start or pressed undo (command z). Following that step, I lowered the opacity of that layer to 70%. This step was repeated on the areas where I wished for the shadows to be darker. Looking back, I could have used a gray brush at first, and then gradually go darker.

I also did this step for my horns, but instead of creating a new layer on top of the horns, I created one in the middle of me and the horns. (This would help me draw in black behind the horns, but on top of myself.) I then repeated what I did for the wings, drawing shadows in where I thought the shadows would go and be like.

That's all I did.
