Entry 17 - Outside
Today we shot the outside scene again.
The first shot was a medium shot of Charlotte facing the grave. To be honest, this shot is really bland. The lighting is too high, making the whole shot appear grainy and too light. We should have lowered the exposure, but somehow we thought not to. Furthermore, we can clearly see the car's in the background, something that we weren't aiming for in our film. Our film is supposed to be timeless. Not to mention, she's not even facing the direction of the tombstone. I kind of like where she's positioned, but it doesn't really give the viewers a sense of vulnerability, but instead determination and hope.
This shot is a high to low angle shot from a high position, looking down on Charlotte. I kind of really like this shot, as it shows her vulnerability clearly, with the lack of frame space and the position she's in. However, the shot is too overexposed, making it appear grainy.
This shot is just a close up shot of the parent's grave. Honestly, it's just a shot just in case we want to show what Charlotte is exactly looking at, or to just fill up time.
This shot is a medium, medium position, high to low shot. It is shot this way to show both the grave and a hint of the gravedigger being the one to drop the flower on the grave. I really like the positioning of this shot, because both the flower and the grave is not really on the line of third, so it gives this sense of irregularity. In addition, the lighting that's not on the grave makes it seem as if the grave owners are not "saved".
This shot is a medium close up shot, with Charlotte right in the centre. Charlotte is right in the centre instead of on the line of third as she's the main focus of this shot. There's nothing like powerfulness nor vulnerability, it's just purely her and the flower. The shot first focuses on the flower and then after it's dropped, the camera then focuses on Charlotte, showing how the "responsibility" has shifted. However, I don't think that I'm going to use this shot, as the focusing wasn't done properly.
This shot is a shot of the gravedigger walking closer to Charlotte. It is a long shot with no particular angles used. This shot cannot be used in the film as the background does not match with any of the other shots. Charlotte is supposed to be near the tree, but she's not. I could flip the shot, but it still wouldn't look nice. Furthermore, half of my dress is showing in this shot, and I believe that the uncle has no interest in cross-dressing.
This shot is a medium shot of the shadow getting closer. At first, the camera was on a tripod, but the tripod and the camera appeared as a shadow. Then, I got Dayna to hold the camera, but that didn't look nice. In the end, I held the camera, but the shaking motion in the shot isn't that nice. Other than that, it's all good.
This shot is a medium shot, where Charlotte is placed in the middle and the gravedigger on the line of third. It's an okay shot. The lighting is kind of too harsh, making it a bit overexposed, but other than that, everything seems fine. We had to shoot this shot twice, because my school uniform could be seen in the first shot.
This shot is a medium shot. This shot is similar to the previous shot, except from a different position. However, this shot can't be used because of the background. I can see people moving in the background playing netball, and I don't think that anyone is going to do that near a funeral. Other than that, the lighting is good. It matches with the other shots more than the previous shot.
This shot is a medium shot, where Charlotte is placed in the middle and the gravedigger on the line of third. The lighting is alright, nothing much to comment on it. However, I can't really use this shot, as my face is shown in this shot. Furthermore, the camera kind of zooms in and out every few seconds.
This shot is a long shot of the gravedigger walking. It's in a canted angle to show confusion. The lighting is alright with the branches and all, it'll look cool after it's underexposed in final cut.
That's all we did this lesson.
