Entry 18 - Father's Bedroom

Today we refilmed the father's bedroom scene.

The first shot is a medium close-up, high to low angle, medium position shot. We shoot it this way to show her vulnerability and the current oppressed state of mind, where she's entrapped to do whatever the aunt tells her to do. The little frame space she has kind of suffocates her. We had to reshoot this scene a couple of times. The first time, we had to reshoot it because the shot was boring, with it having a small angle. Furthermore, her head was cut right through the middle with the shelf. We had to reshoot it the 2nd time because Dayna's head was too low. The third time was okay, but we forgot about the exposure. The fourth time, the exposure suddenly changed in the middle of the shot. The fifth shot was our final.

The 2nd shot is the shot, with the same positions and angles from the previous shot, but this time of her looking up. There's nothing special to it, she's literally just looking up.

The 3rd shot is a close up, high to low angle shot. This shot really makes her appear oppressed, similar to the shot used in casino royale. Furthermore, it shows her facial expression. The lighting that's only on half of the face kind of foreshadows that a big storm is coming.

The 4th shot is a shot of Charlotte taking the jacket out of the closet. This is a medium over the shoulder shot, to make it appear as if someone is watching her action rn. It was hard filming this shot, because we couldn't get the lighting right. I had to hold the light right above Dayna, so my arm muscles hurt a lot afterwards. I really like this shot, because Dayna's face is warmly lit, and the closet is dark and ominous.

The 5th shot is a shot of Charlotte getting the jacket out of the closet from a different position. Dayna wanted this shot.

The 6th shot is a shot of Charlotte sniffing the father's jacket while staring into the mirror. We were extremely lucky that there was a mirror attached to the closet, or else we would have had to abandon this idea of staring into one's true inner self. This shot is really cool, because Dayna's back is at us, but we can still see her from the mirror.

The 7th shot is a shadow shot of the aunt being killed. There's nothing really special to this shot, except that she's killed, in a shadow. We had to reshoot this a couple of times because we couldn't get the timing where Sarah falls after being stabbed.

That's all we did this lesson.
