Entry 19 - Aunt's Death
This lesson, we shot the Aunt's death scene.
The first shot is a shot of Charlotte walking towards the Aunt with the Dad's jacket, and the Aunt looking up without even turning back to tell Charlotte to take it off. This shot is a medium shot, in a slightly low position. I really like how in this shot, the Aunt is focused, but Charlotte is not. It allows the audience to be in Aunt's "radar". The lighting is also cool in this shot, with it creating some harsh shadows on some parts of the Aunt's face. However, the lighting in this scene changes from Scene 2, so I'm afraid that Mr Andrews may not like it, but it's subtle.
This shot is a close-up shot where the Aunt turns back to shout at Charlotte. The close-up shot makes it seem as if the Aunt is really getting in Charlotte's space. The lighting change on her face also makes her appear scarier. Also, she's facing little to no frame space, hinting that she's going to face death soon.
This shot is a medium shot of Red's back, where the murder weapon she's holding is visible to the audience, but not the Aunt. The Aunt is in the background with a negative spacing, while Charlotte is near the camera, focused. Furthermore, the weapon is on the line of third so that the audience can see the weapon from the start. We shot this shot twice, one where the Aunt is facing forward and one where she's facing backwards so that everyone can change up their film a bit. The lighting in the first shot is so much cooler than the latter, as it highlights some of the jacket's edges.
This shot is a close-up shot of Charlotte's side. It doesn't really help much as an aesthetic feature. I don't think I'm going to use this shot, so no comment on this shot.
This shot is a close-up shot of Charlotte, with her positioned on the line of third. I really like this shot, because half of her face is covered in shadows, as if the darkness is taking over her. Furthermore, she's facing little frame space, but it's to show her betrayal.
This shot is a close-up shot of the Aunts face, where she fakes innocence. As she is faking innocence, I wanted her to appear relaxed an unfazed, therefore having her to face more frame space. Sarah made a mistake and smiled in the first shot, but I really like it. It just makes the Aunt appear more psychotic. I know that the lighting is different for this shot, even though there was a different lighting in another shot in the same place. I can't do anything about it now.
This shot is a close-up shot of the Aunt reaching for the knife, as she knows and feels as if something is off. As I wanted to emphasise this, I placed the knife in the middle. I also like the slight glow the knife had when Sarah picked up the knife.
This shot is a high to low angle shot in a slightly canted angle to show the Aunt's demented state of mind. The lighting in this shot changes once again, but I really hope Mr Andrews just ignores it and moves on. I needed the lighting to make her appear more evil and sinister.
This shot is the same as the last shot, except in a high position, shooting the side profile of the Aunt. It shows a shift in power, as the Aunt now faces less frame space. She said something that she shouldn't have.
This shot is a high to low, low position shot of the Aunt's dead body. I really like the leading lines in the shot, leading towards Charlotte in a sense. Everything is also kind of shifted, just like Charlotte's mental state. The lighting is also good in this shot, as it lights enough to have this eerie atmosphere.
The low to high angle used in this shot makes Charlotte appear powerful as she's distastefully staring down at the Aunt's corpse. Her face is also half-lit, showing her evilness.
We did a long close up shot of all her actions at once, so that we just have to cut it up and edit it however we wanted. The shot was a low to high angle shot, with Dayna on the line of third and also showing a bit of the Aunt to show the actions that are happening on her.
We then did a low to high angle shot from the Aunt's POV, with all the actions at once.
This shot is a high to low angle shot of Charlotte snapping the Aunt's fingers. I really like how the shadows came out in this shot, but the lighting is once again different from before.
This shot is a high to low angle shot of Charlotte opening the Aunt's eyes. The Aunt's eye is on the line of third, putting the focus on what is happening. In addition, the extreme close up shot makes the viewers uncomfortable.
This shot is a panning, high to low angle shot of Charlotte taking off her jacket to put the Aunt's hoodie. There's no special meaning behind the shot. I really like how smooth the panning was.
This shot is a medium shot of Charlotte leaving. This shot was really hard to take, because the lighting didn't appear on Charlotte. This is because the lighting outside was brighter than the lighting inside. I don't really like this shot.
