Entry 16 - New Jane
My mum apparently really didn't like my Jane and Edward, so I decided to remake them.
I bought one of those artist wooden dolls, and decided to use them as a base and just dress them up.
After buying the needed fabric and thread at daiso, I started making the clothes for my doll with scrap fabric, as I only had one go at making the final clothes. I first started off with the inner shirt. I measured the doll's sizes and drew a basic template on scrap fabric. After cutting it out, I sewed it on together. Thinking that this took me too much time, and it'd take me ages to make the actual one, I decided to just go in with the actual fabric.
I had a lot of white fabric, so the inner clothes were not that much of a worry for me. Knowing that I wanted the sleeves to be long and flowy, when drawing the sleeves, I made it extra bigger and longer than what sleeves are usually meant to be. After cutting out the two pieces, whilst the doll was "wearing it", I sewed it together. I then cut out a thin strip of dark green, and added them on the bottom of the sleeves as an extra design.
After that, getting a green fabric, I started cutting out the vest. I made one of the pieces longer on the bottom than the other, as that's what it is like in my painting. I repeated the same step as last time and sew it together. I then got two thin strips of yellow fabric and added them on the lines of the V. I also got two thin white strips of fabric and added them on the sleeves part.
The skirt part in my opinion, was the easiest, as I just sewed them together whist creating folds around the waist line. I pinned them in securely with a safety pin.
For the hair, since I didn't want to permanetly place threads on the doll's hair, I first used clay to cover the whole entire area of head where I wanted the hair to be. I then got some brown thread and starting placing them on the spots with clay. Creating a small ball with the clay, I wrapped it around with the thread and added it on the top of the head to create a "bun".
For extra details, I added a big gold ribbon at the front of the puppet and then a gold rose in the centre of it.
That is all.
